Litecubes

Litecubes

Litecubes are the original lighted ice cube. They look like lite up ice cubes, but actually they are little LED lights encased in FDA approved nontoxic coolant gel and clear waterproof plastic. Whatever you choose to call them, light cubes, light up ice cube, lighted ice cubes, or glow cubes, litecubes will make your next party a glowing success.
Litecubes are light up ice cube-shaped, freezeable lights that can be placed in drinks, punchbowls, hot tubs, pools, vases, or anywhere you want to add a splash of glow and color. Glowsource.com has the greatest selection of glow products and glow in the dark party supplies -- litecubes are one of our top sellers! Put litecubes at the top of our list for your next party! How do you use litecubes? Litecubes may be frozen before use (recommended for drinks & punchbowls), and will act like ice when placed in a drink. They can also be used at room temperature for vases, swimming pools, hot tubs, and other places where ice isn't really needed. You should hand wash them with hot, soapy water before using. You can use your litecubes immediately, or put them in the freezer. To turn them on, hold litecube with label facing you. Point the "TAP ON" arrow downward and tap firmly on a hard surface. You might need to tap it 3-5 times firmly to activate it the first time. After that it will become much easier and probably turn on with just a firm tap or two. To turn them off, hold the lite cube with label facing you, point the "TAP OFF" arrow downward and tap it firmply on a hard surface. Place your litecubes with real ice for greater cooling power in drinks. Are they dishwasher safe? No litecubes are not dishwasher safe. We recommend that you hand wash them with hot water and dish washing liquid. Are they kid-safe? Litecubes should not be used by children younger than 3. They are great fun at birthday parties for older kids.
Litecube usage ideas!
  • in soft drinks
  • in coctails
  • in punch bowls
  • in table center pieces
  • on party platters
  • in flower vases (part of a romantic evening)
  • in bath tubs (great way to get the kids to take a bath)
  • in hot tubs and pools
  • on camping

Glow Sticks

Glow Sticks also known as Lite Sticks, Light Sticks or Glowstix. You may have seen glow sticks used to add light and fun to Birthday Parties, Halloween, Raves and other fun gatherings. Glow necklaces and bracelets are very similar to glow sticks and they all work the same way. Glow sticks are usually a plastic cylinder about four or five inches (10 to 13 cm) long and less than an inch (2.5 cm) in diameter. Wearable glow products(glow necklaces or bracelets) are made of a more flexible plastic which can be shaped. Regardless of their form, glow sticks depend on a chemical process known as chemiluminesence to produce their light. In chemiluminesence, a chemical reaction causes a release of energy. Electrons in the chemicals become excited which causes them to rise to a higher energy level. When the electrons drop back to their normal levels, they produce energy in the form of light. The chemicals used to create this reaction in glow sticks are usually hydrogen peroxide and a mixture of phenyl oxalate ester and the fluorescent dye that gives the glow stick its color. The hydrogen peroxide is contained in a small glass tube that floats within the mixture inside the plastic glow stick. This is why you must bend a glow stick to make it start glowing. When the stick bends, the glass vial breaks, the hydrogen peroxide is released, the chemical reaction begins and you get the distinctive glow. The duration of your glow sticks glow will vary depending upon the exact composition and quality of the chemicals inside. You may have heard that you can preserve your glow stick by sticking it in the freezer. Indeed, cooling a glow stick will slow down the chemical reaction taking place inside. The glow will not be as bright, but it will be spread out over several hours. Conversely, you can also heat a light stick to speed up the chemical reaction. This will produce a much brighter light, but it will not last nearly as long because the reaction will use up all of the available hydrogen peroxide much more quickly. Glow in the Dark Products.... How do they work?

Glow in the Dark Products are very fascinating to both children and adults! Have you ever wondered exactly how they work? I came across this very interesting site called HowStuffWorks.com and they had an excellent article titled "How does glow-in-the-dark stuff work?" See below:
How does glow-in-the-dark stuff work?
"You see glow-in-the-dark stuff in all kinds of places, but it is most common in toys. My son, for example, has a glow-in-the-dark yo-yo, a glow-in-the-dark ball, a glow-in-the-dark mobile and even (if you can believe it) a pair of glow-in-the-dark pajamas! They make him easy to find at night! If you have ever seen any of these products, you know that they all have to be "charged". You hold them up to a light, and then take them to a dark place. In the dark they will glow for 10 minutes. Some of the newer glow-in-the-dark stuff will glow for several hours. Usually it is a soft green light, and it is not very bright. You need to be in nearly complete darkness to notice it. All glow-in-the-dark products contain phosphors. A phosphor is a substance that radiates visible light after being energized. The two places where we most commonly see phosphors are in a TV screen or computer monitor and in fluorescent lights. In a TV screen, an electron beam strikes the phosphor to energize it (see How Television Works for details). In a fluorescent light, ultraviolet light energizes the phosphor. In both cases, what we see is visible light. A color TV screen actually contains thousands of tiny phosphor picture elements that emit three different colors (red, green and blue). In the case of a fluorescent light, there is normally a mixture of phosphors that together create light that looks white to us. Chemists have created thousands of chemical substances that behave like a phosphor. Phosphors have three characteristics: * The type of energy they require to be energized * The color of the visible light that they produce * The length of time that they glow after being energized (known as the persistence of the phosphor) To make a glow-in-the-dark toy, what you want is a phosphor that is energized by normal light and that has a very long persistence. Two phosphors that have these properties are Zinc Sulfide and Strontium Aluminate. Strontium Aluminate is newer -- it's what you see in the "super" glow-in-the-dark toys. It has a much longer persistence than Zinc Sulfide does. The phosphor is mixed into a plastic and molded to make most glow-in-the-dark stuff. Occasionally you will see something glowing but it does not need charging. The most common place is on the hands of expensive watches. In these products, the phosphor is mixed with a radioactive element (like radium), and the radioactive emissions (see How Nuclear Radiation Works) energize the phosphor continuously...."
